Minisymposia
The conference program included 8 minisymposia on various aspects of wave propagation. The minisymposia and their organizers were:
- Advanced Computational Methods for Acoustic and Elastic Wave Propagation organised by Dan Givoli and Thomas Hagstrom
- Boundary Integral Equations for Time Harmonic Scattering organised by Xavier Claeys and Euan Spence
- Fast Solvers for the Helmholtz Equation organised by Wim Vanroose, Domenico Lahaye and Chris Stolk
- Low Frequency Electromagnetic Imaging and Eletrical Impedance Tomography organised by Bastian v. Harrach and Roland Griesmaier
- Numerical Bottlenecks in Helioseismology organised by Juliette Chabassier and Damien Fournier
- Wave-based Discretizations organised by David Hewett and Andrea Moiola
- Wave Motions of Fluid-Loaded Structures and Multiple Scattering organised by Hyuck Chung and Malte Peter
- Waves and Plasmas organised by Bruno Despres and Lise-Marie Imbert-Gerard
Social Program
The social program included an option of excursions on Wednesday afternoon and the conference dinner on Thursday evening.
The following options were available for the excursion:
- Trip to Speyer with a visit of the Cathedral: Speyer is one of the oldest towns in Germany. The Roman town Noviomagus was founded between 10 B.C. and 150 A.D. and became Spira in the middle ages. The construction of its famous cathedral started round about 1030 A.D. It became the crowning and burial place for a number of emperors of the Staufer dynasty. A bus will take you to Speyer where there will be a guided tour of the cathedral. After that you have some free time to explore Speyer and its many cafes or take a stroll along the Rhine river.
- Hike in the Palatine Forest (fully booked): The Palatine Forest is a hilly, forested region to the west of the Rhine valley. It is quite different in landscape than the well known Black Forest on the eastern side. The region is also famous for its many ruins of medieval castle including the Trifels where King Richard Lionheart was imprisoned until he was later ransomned. You will travel by bus to the Palatine Forest where you will embark on a 3 hour hike. The hike will lead to a castle named Madenburg where you will have an extended break with coffee and cake.
- Visit to the ZKM Museum: The ZKM | Center for Art and Media is both museum and more than a museum. It is house for all media and genre, a house for both spatially-based art such as painting, photography and sculpture as well as for time-based arts such as film, video, media art, music, dance, theater and performance. It was founded as a museum in 1989. We will travel by tram to the museum which is located in central Karlsruhe. There, we will have a guided tour of one of the exhibitions of modern art and media. After the tour, there will be an opportunity to have coffee.
